One Who Returned

After the liberation in 1945 some of the survivors of the Nazi death camps returned to their birthplaces in Eastern Europe in the hope of finding some members of their families. They were met with enmity, mockery and violence. Many of the survivors were killed by their own countrymen. Their homes had usually been looted.
